Victory or loss conditions are characteristics of a map or a scenario which a player must complete in order to win or fulfill in order to lose. Typically to win a scenario, a player must conquer all enemy towns and defeat all enemy heroes. And vice versa, typically to lose a scenario, a player must lose control of all towns for a period of seven days or have their last hero defeated while controlling no towns.

Special Victory Conditions:

  • Acquire a Specific Artifact: You must find a specific artifact. Win by placing the artifact in one of your heroes’ backpacks.
  • Accumulate Creatures: Your kingdom must acquire X number of a specific type of creature.
  • Accumulate Resources: Your kingdom must acquire X amount of a specific resource.
  • Upgrade a Specific Town: The hall and castle of a given town must be upgraded to a specified level.
  • Build a Grail Building: You must find the Grail and build a grail building in one of your towns.
  • Defeat a Specific Hero: You must defeat a specified hero.
  • Capture a Specific Town: You must occupy a specified town.
  • Defeat a Specific Creature: You must defeat a specified wandering monster.
  • Flag All Creature Generators: You must control all the creature generators on the map.
  • Flag All Mines: You must control all the mines on the map. This includes lighthouses on the adventure map, which technically count as mines.
  • Transport a Specific Artifact: You must acquire a specific artifact and transport it to a specified town.
  •  Armageddon's Blade Horn of the Abyss Defeat All Monsters: You must defeat all wandering monsters.
  •  Armageddon's Blade Horn of the Abyss Survive Until Time Expires: You win if you have not lost the scenario within the specified number of days.

Special Loss Conditions:

  • Lose a Specific Hero: You lose if the specified hero is defeated.
  • Lose a Specific Town: You lose if the specified town is occupied by an enemy.
  • Time Limit: You lose if you have not won the scenario within the specified number of days.

"New" Victory Conditions[edit | hide | hide all]

The Special Victory Conditions ("Defeat All Monsters" and "Survive Until Time Expires") appear in the various Armageddon's Blade campaigns Armageddon's Blade. These victory conditions, however, did not appear in the Armageddon's Blade Armageddon's Blade Map Editor, but were instead added in the Horn of the Abyss Horn of the Abyss Map Editor.

Without using the HotA map editor, it is possible to make use of them by hacking the h3m file. The first step is to open the .h3m file in a gzip-compatible utility, such as 7-Zip, to get access to the raw, uncompressed scenario file. The victory condition for "defeat all monsters" has hex code 0B, while the victory condition for "survive until time expires" has hex code 0C. After the victory condition come two bytes that work as Boolean values, the first being whether the scenario can also be won "normally" by defeating all enemies, and the second being whether a computer player can win through this special victory condition. After these two bytes, for "survive until time expires", there is an additional three bytes that represent the amount of days, in little-Endian notation. After editing the file, it should be gzipped back to return to its normal .h3m form.
