Trivia[edit | hide]

Bulwark was also known as Kronverk (crownwork). The English name since has been changed to Bulwark. The Russian name, Кронверк, still transliterates to Kronverk (crownwork).

  • Judging by the previous concepts, the faction will probably be slow and defence-oriented.
  • It will not have any flying units, which will make the sieges harder. But some units will make up for it with shooting/magic abilities.

Some random observations:

  • The name "bulwark" literally means "beamwork" and originally designated city walls reinforced with wooden beams. The name "boulevard" comes from cities where bulwarks were dismantled to create broad streets in their place. The name "crownwork" designates a forward fortified position which is separate from the main fort, and directly exposed to fire from it. Attackers who manage to breach into the crownwork and seize it will not be able to use it against the main fort.
  • The first Youtube teaser for the Bulwark, here, is a direct sequel to the first teaser for the Factory here.
  • It seems the Mage Guild will only have four levels.
  • The Elder Futhark runes on the massive horn building transliterate to "fukïzt", which is meaningless.
  • Although associated with the Vori elves, the architectural style of the fort, mages guild, and horn support is more typically associated to dwarves in pop culture (e.g. the Moria/Khazad-Dûm from Peter Jackson's movie adaptation of The Fellowship of the Rings, or from The Rings of Power series, Orzammar and the Deep Roads from Dragon Age, etc.) with sharp angles and straight lines that are visually reminiscent of the Futhark runes.
  • Previous point is because Bulwark is a fusion of Crownwork of a faction of mountain dwarves, and a newer project of making a Vori elf town. The dwarves have been replaced with elves, but part of their aesthetic remain.
  • Several units that had been created for the old dwarven Kronverk project have been preserved/reanimated in the VCMI town mods Highlands and Ark.
  • A very different interpretation of the Vori from Day of Reckoning's Palace.
