Deemer nearly had to be killed as a young adult, as his magical abilities were so out of control that he was a threat to himself and those around him. He has since learned to control his powers, and is more than a formidable foe in combat.

In Restoration of Erathia Deemer is one of two heroes who have more than two levels of secondary skills (the other one being Uland). Adrienne, introduced in Armageddon's Blade, starts with Expert Fire Magic and Basic Wisdom. In Horn of the Abyss, Deemer's Scouting starting skill was downgraded from Advanced to Basic.
