Animate Dead is a beautiful spell...if your army is comprised of undead.  Since the Necropolis has only one ranged fighter, the [[lich]] and its upgrade, one must rely on this spell in order to raise them should they fall.  [[Wraith]]s and their Mana-sapping ability can be particularly useful if facing a [[warlock]] or [[elementalist]] and are great for reviving.  [[Ghost Dragon]]s can be reanimated and it is always useful to have a possible [[age]] ability standing by.

The animated undead will only live for the duration of the battle, unless your hero has Advanced or Expert Earth Magic.

Comments & debate

This is resurrection for the undead, and therefore one of the most powerful seplls when playing with necropolis. Of course, the spell is useless if you do not have undead troops in your army.

It has been suggested, that regardless what the manual claims, the animation of the undead is not permament, unless your hero has advanced or expert earth magic.
