Morale represents troop stack's willingness to fight. High morale can allow creatures to receive an extra attack, while low morale can cause them to freeze and lose the turn. Each army has a morale rating which acts as a bonus to the individual morale of its troops. Various creatures, spells, secondary skills, town buildings, Adventure Map locations, and artifacts can temporarily affect morale.

Morale represents troop stack's willingness to fight. High morale can allow creatures to receive an extra attack during combat round, while low morale can cause them to freeze and lose the turn. Good morale is received after the troop stack has acted, which means that the creatures will have a chance to act again immediately. Bad morale happens at the very beginning of creature stack's turn, and causes them to "freeze in panic".
The morale value of a creature stack can vary from -3 to +3 representing different probabilities to receive morale effect. The game manual gives incorrect values for morale, stating that the probability would calculated with the formula 1/24 times morale value. The correct values can be seen from the table on the right. As it shows, it is more probable to receive bad morale than good morale.

The morale value of a creature stack can vary from -3 to +3. The game manual erroneously states the probability of receiving good or bad morale is equal at 1/24 (4.17 %) times morale value. As shown in the table on the right, it is more probable to receive bad morale than good morale. The troop stack's morale value is mainly determined by army's morale rating, which acts as a bonus to the individual morale of its troops. Thus the creature stack's morale can differ from hero's army's morale. Army's morale can be affected in various ways, which are listed below.
Receiving good morale happens after the creture stack has acted, while bad morale happens at the very beginning of creature stack's turn.

Golems, undead and elementals are unaffected by morale, meaning that their morale rating is always zero.
Undead  creatures  and elementals have  a  morale of  zero, independent  of  their army’s  morale rating.

Morale affecting features
Base morale is what you get from having an army composed of units from certain towns. You get lower base morale the more towns you have units from in your army (Neutral counts as a town)- You start off at +1, and get -1 for each new alignment you add.(So if you have creatures from 3 town types, you have -1 as base morale). Bonuses for having Archangels and/or Undead are not counted here.
