External sources[edit]

Hello. I saw that you have added a lot of new pages considering external projects/sites like Heroes 3 HD. While I do not see harm in adding articles about them in the wiki, I do not see the point of creating each individual page for them with very little content. Might I suggest you combine these into one category, e.g. External projects or something that better describes them. Otherwise, nice work. –Kapteeni Ruoska (talk) 07:10, 16 September 2016 (CEST)

Sure. I'll take care of it. No problem. :)

Manuals / Capitalization[edit]

Sorry again about the capitalization. As I said in the Crypt's talk page, I have tried to follow the manual on this. We vaguely agreed so in Ibraesil's talk page. Perhaps you could do some kind of instruction about this matter? Some kind of instruction page perhaps? –Kapteeni Ruoska (talk) 10:20, 27 December 2016 (CET)

No problem. I'll make a capitalization reference based on the manual and put it in the contributor resources.
--imahero 23:33, 27 December 2016 (CET)
First of all, you have done a huge job with uploading the manuals into the wiki. I have not explored your work more closely, but it seems that you have done a good job. However, I fail to see the point in all this. Although the manual is essential part of the game and we have copied and rewritten a lot of things from the manual to this wiki, I am not sure why it would be necessary to upload it here. In my opinnion, one of this wiki's purpose is to be an extension to the manual, and of course to explain things even further than the manual. Not to mention the fact, that it is much more convinient to read the manual in PDF-form than it is to browse through the wiki. –Kapteeni Ruoska (talk) 08:38, 5 January 2017 (CET)
Started as the capitalization reference project as above, but then at some point I decided it would be nice to have the whole text of the manuals searchable on the wiki. I'm still going to do the capitalization reference. That's next.

Continuing original capitalization discussion on Ibraesil's talk page.

Horn of the Abyss[edit]

Okay, I understand that you wish to add stuff from these unofficial addons. But I thought we agreed that they should be kept separate from the official part? Now they mix up with the official features and everything becomes a mess. So, if I may, please move all the HotA stuff under its own catecory. –Kapteeni Ruoska (talk) 10:46, 9 January 2018 (CET)

No. I think Horn of the Abyss is on an entirely different level from any other mod and I very much doubt we'll ever get anything like it. That is why I am fine adding it. And I do not agree that the way I added it was going to make a mess. Everything was properly labeled with {{inhota}}.
--imahero 12:59, 9 January 2018 (CET)
I've clearly missed quite a bit of activity, but I tend to agree with Kapt. Ruoska here, for what my opinion's worth. I do think it's definitely valuable to have information about the mod on the wiki, but I'm not a huge fan of things like including Cove in the Hero Classes template. Obviously, there is the issue that if it isn't included or mentioned in places like that, it might end up being an 'orphaned' section of the wiki, which wouldn't typically be found in standard use. That would be a bit of a shame, but even so, I still have a slight preference for that than it being included alongside the official content in a way which doesn't make it obvious that it's different. Ibraesil (talk) 15:36, 9 January 2018 (CET)
The majority of people playing the game nowadays are going to be playing with Horn of the Abyss installed. It adds a lot of balance and many features of convenience and enjoyment to the game. For the minority of people playing using only the HD/HD+ mod, having an extra town on the list isn't going to seriously affect them in any way. On the other hand, for the vast majority of players, having to go out of their way to find where Cove is hidden would most certainly be annoying.
--imahero 15:49, 9 January 2018 (CET)
I did not mean that you had not done a good job adding HotA features to templates, I meant "messy" in that sense that unofficial and official expansions are now blend into one. For example hero classes category included also hero classes from HotA. Another thing is, that you keep saying that "majority of players" paly HotA. Is this really true? And this is an honest question, because I seriously doubt that majority of the people who still play heroes (online or offline) use it. I base this on experience about any fan-based mod of any game. They tend to have few followers, but typically majority still remains true to the original game.
Anyway, it seems to me that we strongly disagree what should and what should not be in this wiki. My opinnion is, that HotA or any other modifications should not be part of this wiki. In fact, one of the main reasons that I ever become involved with this wiki was the reason that it seemed to me that this wikis purpose was to focus on the main game. I would like this wiki to be true to the official game and its expansions, and be an extension to those. There is undoubtly other wikisites to add information about fan-based mods like HotA or HD-mod, but this - in my honest opinnion - is not it. –Kapteeni Ruoska (talk) 18:30, 9 January 2018 (CET)
From the beginning Terra had some unofficial towns listed right alongside the original ones. As no other mod currently comes anywhere close to the level of HotA, I do not believe that a few references to it throughout the wiki is going to hurt anyone. Usefulness is more important than purity.
--imahero 18:40, 9 January 2018 (CET)
That is partly right, Terra had Forge listed on the main page. But as you can read from its page, it was more like an easter egg of the creators of HoMM3 rather than an unofficial town. And the main page still states that this wiki concentrates on officiall HoMM3 and its expansions. It seems to me that you stubbornly want to add information about some unofficial fanbased addons even though me and Ibraesil have told you otherwise then so be it. But please, keep them separate from official features. –Kapteeni Ruoska (talk) 13:52, 10 January 2018 (CET)
OK. I've separated things out quite a bit. However I'd appreciate it if we could keep Cove in the sidebar. I don't think that should cause too much confusion, but it will greatly increase usability for those us playing with HotA.
--imahero 04:40, 11 January 2018 (CET)
Thank you. I appriciate that. And I am sorry that we see these things differently. Unfortunately, I have to again disagree with you about the sidebar matter. That is a vital part of the "main wiki" and would make a confusion why there is ten factions instead of regular nine. I suggest you create a new, almost duplicate sidebar for the Cove page. I know this will create a sort of one way street, which will only lead away from Cove but not back, but that is best I can do. –Kapteeni Ruoska (talk) 06:31, 11 January 2018 (CET)

Main page[edit]

I absolutely agree with you about the "boldness" matter. I tried to do it myself but failed. Perhaps it could be done with four equal signs too. –Kapteeni Ruoska (talk) 11:35, 7 March 2018 (CET)

Thanks! Good to know. :) --imahero 11:53, 7 March 2018 (CET)

Talk pages[edit]

I am not entirely sure what the talk pages are for in this wiki. In the wikipedia their purpose (if I have understood correctly) is to discuss about editing the mother page. They do not contain any valuable infromation. I think that is a good practice. Or do you have an opposite opinnion about it? It seems to me, that now the pages contain valuable although perhaps controversial information. And if we would like to be consistent about this matter, we should also move a lot of discussions from other pages too. –Kapteeni Ruoska (talk) 17:16, 19 March 2018 (CET)

Yeah I'm for facts only on the pages. To me all of that strategy talk is very questionable. --imahero 17:59, 19 March 2018 (CET)

Hello, I saw you moving a bunch of my "discussion" points to the talk pages, I've noted this and I'll start posting them on those talk pages (still figuring out all the tricks to editing this wiki) I've been playing Heroes of Might and Magic games since I was a kid and know most aspects of Heroes 3 by heart. I think there's a ton of meta strategy with the game that newer players might benefit from so I try to add it where I can. --SpuddPDX (talk) 00:17, 30 March 2018 (CEST)

Feel free to move anything back that you think is actually a fact. Just try to stick to facts and not inject opinions when you can. For instance, most of what you posted on the portal of summoning talk page sounds fairly factual. Thanks for contributing! --imahero 01:06, 30 March 2018 (CEST)
