With expert offense, the total damage of 150 is not multiplied by 130% and is therefore not 195. Instead, the base damage of 100 is multiplied by 30%, which is added to the 100 base damage and 50 bonus damage for a total of 100 + 50 + 30 = 180 damage. In this case, then, expert offense adds only 20% damage, instead of 30%. In reality, the offense bonus is therefore 30% only when no other bonuses, such as from [[luck]], [[death blow]], or high [[attack skill]] are added.

Offense
Basic Offense: Combat, Buff, Melee, adds a 10% bonus to all hand-to-hand damage inflicted by the hero's troops.
Advanced Offense: Combat, Buff, Melee, adds a 20% bonus to all hand-to-hand damage inflicted by the hero's troops.
Expert Offense: Combat, Buff, Melee, adds a 30% bonus to all hand-to-hand damage inflicted by the hero's troops.

Offense adds 10%, 20% or 30% damage to the base damage of any Melee attacks from a hero’s troops. It does not multiply total damage by 110%, 120% or 130%, it just adds a one time bonus to the damage points and doesnt change a total after luck, death blow or attack skill - just a bonus to the damage points of the creature stack, not a bonus to a total after modifications by primary skill or multiplicative effects and enhancements.

To illustrate, take a creature stack that without offense does 100 base damage and 50 bonus damage from its high attack skill for a total of 150 damage. In reality, the offense bonus is therefore 30% only when no other bonuses, such as from luck, death blow, or high attack skill are added.

So it would be like equipping the creatures with better weapons (or tending to claws and the like), but not magically enhancing done damage (all Barbarians have at least Basic Offense, one Battle mage, Gundula has Offense as Hero specialty, but no other Battle mage has Offense at the beginning of the game).
