'''Garrison''' is a defensive location on the [[Adventure Map]] that is typically used to guard a bottleneck on a map.

Up to seven stacks of creatures can be placed in a garrison. The player that owns the Garrison (and their allies) can travel through it without fighting the garrison's army. However, enemies must first defeat the garrison's army before they can pass through it.

Heroes cannot occupy a garrison.

Garrisons do not give special defenses like walls, moats, or arrow towers.

== Anti-magic Garrison ==
Anti-magic Garrisons prevent all spell casting by heroes or [[Spellcaster|spellcasting creatures]] in combat, as well as the casting of adventure spells when standing on the Garrison tile.

While heroes cannot occupy a garrison, if a hero is attacked while on a garrison tile, magic is also suppressed for the defending hero.

If the troops in the garrison are removable, there will be a flag on the first slot of the garrison. Otherwise, the troops are irremovable.

'''Armageddon's Blade''' is the first of two [[expansions]] for {{homm3}}. It was developed by New World Computing for Microsoft Windows and released by the 3DO Company in 1999.

== Synopsis ==
=== Plot ===
Only one of the six new campaigns available in ''Armageddon's Blade'' directly concerns the main storyline. The events of ''Armageddon's Blade'' immediately follow the events of {{mm7}}. As the kingdom of [[Erathia]] struggles to rebuild following the [[Restoration Wars]], the [[Kreegan]]s of [[Eeofol]] launch a surprise invasion. Already war-weary, the forces of [[Catherine|Queen Catherine]] are no match for the formidable Kreegan army.

Following the death of the [[Kreegan]] king, [[Xenofex]], a usurper named [[Lucifer Kreegan]] takes control of [[Eeofol]] and, driven by a vision, begins to seek a means to fashion an ancient weapon known as [[Armageddon's Blade (artifact)|Armageddon's Blade]], capable of setting the world on fire. His general [[Xeron]] is tasked with locating the components for the Blade. To stop him, the armies of Erathia and [[AvLee]] launch an attack on Eeofol, receiving assistance from the very elements as they manifest in "[[Conflux]]" towns. Queen Catherine and the recently liberated [[Roland|King Roland]] are assisted by the mysterious elven warrior [[Gelu]] in the ensuing war. Xeron obtains the Blade but is defeated by Gelu on his return to Eeofol. Gelu claims the Blade, and, at the behest of Queen Catherine, uses it to slay Lucifer Kreegan. Following this event, the Ironfists return to Enroth and the Blade is passed on to Gelu. The story is continued in ''[[Heroes Chronicles|Heroes Chronicles: The Sword of Frost]]'', eventually leading to [[The Reckoning]] - a cataclysm that sets the stage for {{homm4}}.

Four of the other five campaigns are the origin stories of characters important to [[The Reckoning]]:
* [[Mutare]] - who becomes the [[Dragon Queen]] of [[Nighon]]
* [[Dracon]] - the greatest Dragon Slayer ever to live
* [[Adrienne]] - the fire witch of [[Tatalia]]
* [[Kilgor]] - a ruthless [[Barbarian]] king

The last campaign is a less serious campaign chock full of pop culture references that serves as the origin story of [[Christian]], an aspiring fragrance alchemist.

=== Characters ===
In the ''Armageddon's Blade'' campaign, the player takes command of Queen Catherine Ironfist, the main character of ''[[Restoration of Erathia|Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Restoration of Erathia]]'', as well as King Roland Ironfist, the protagonist of ''Heroes of Might and Magic II''. New characters introduced include Gelu, a half-elven archer, and Xeron, leader of the Kreegan armies. The five standalone campaigns feature a multitude of previously-unseen characters. ''[[Dragon Slayer]]'' features the Bracadan wizard, [[Dracon]], while ''[[Festival of Life]]'' introduces the barbarian [[Kilgor]] who has a prominent role at the outset of ''Heroes of Might and Magic IV''. ''[[Dragon's Blood]]'' stars [[Mutare]], a [[dungeon overlord]] who returns in ''Heroes Chronicles: Clash of the Dragons'' along with [[Adrienne]], the protagonist of ''[[Playing with Fire]]''. Finally, the unlockable ''Foolhardy Waywardness'' campaign features the Knight, Sir [[Christian]], who also returns in ''Heroes of Might and Magic IV''. As an aside, the epilogue of the ''[[Foolhardy Waywardness]]'' campaign explains the reason for Sir Christian's appearance as the player's starting hero in ''The Restoration of Erathia'''s first campaign, ''[[Long Live the Queen]]''.

== Features ==
The most significant change in ''Armageddon's Blade'' is the addition of the {{town|Conflux}}, bringing the total number of alignments in ''Heroes III'' to nine. The town is themed around classical elements and includes other creatures to round out the selection. Six new [[campaign]]s were included, one acting as a continuation of the base game's storyline, with the other five revolving around adventures taking place in the same fictional world. Over 35 single scenarios were also added.

Returning as non-aligned units, several creature types from previous ''Heroes'' games make an appearance. These include {{Cn|Peasant}}s, {{Cn|Boar}}s, and {{Cn|Halfling}}s. The expansion also introduced some new non-aligned creature types, such as the powerful Azure Dragon. Eleven new campaign heroes and two new artifacts – {{An|Armageddon's Blade}} and the {{An|Vial of Dragon Blood}} – were introduced as well.

A [[Random Map|random map generator]] included with the expansion allows players to create random maps using a variety of customizable parameters. Finally, a standalone [[campaign editor]] packaged with the game allows for the composition of new campaigns from individual scenario maps.

;New adveture map objects
* More decorations (more vegetation for each terrain, Lake for Rough terrain);
* Models of [[Abandoned Mine]]s for each terrain;
* Snow-covered [[Trading Post]];
* [[Border Gate]]s, which are 3 tiles-wide, and unlike [[Border Guard]]s, do not disappear after a hero has passed through them;
* Quest objectives for [[Seer's Hut]]s beyond "returning with a single artifact";
* [[Quest Guard]], with the same quest options;
Armageddon's Blade was hailed with strongly positive reviews upon release, from critics and users alike. IGN's reviewer noted improvements made to the map editor and praised the amount of new content, while GameSpot focused on the addition of the Conflux alignment and subtle tweaks to the gameplay. Game Revolution's reviewer was mildly disappointed with the Conflux town and its use of neutral creatures already included in the base game but praised the campaign storyline and gameplay along with the addition of new features. {{About|This article refers to the [[Expansions|expansion]]. For the [[campaign]] with the same name, see [[Armageddon's Blade (campaign)]]. For the [[artifact]] with the same name, see [[Armageddon's Blade (artifact)]].}}

'''Armageddon's Blade''' is the first of two [[expansions]] for {{homm3}}. It was developed by New World Computing for Microsoft Windows and released by the 3DO Company in 1999.

== Synopsis ==
=== Plot ===

* [[Kilgor]] - a ruthless [[Barbarian]] king

The last campaign is a less serious campaign chock full of pop culture references that serves as the origin story of [[Christian]], an aspiring fragrance alchemist.

=== Characters ===

== Features ==

* More decorations (more vegetation for each terrain, Lake for Rough terrain);
* Models of [[Abandoned Mine]]s for each terrain;
* Snow-covered [[Trading Post]];
* [[Border Gate]]s, which are 3 tiles-wide, and unlike [[Border Guard]]s, do not disappear after a hero has passed through them;
* Quest objectives for [[Seer's Hut]]s beyond "returning with a single artifact";
{{About|Note: This article refers to the adventure map location "[[Seer's Hut]]", not the similar sounding adventure map location "[[Hut of the Magi]]".}}

'''Seer's Hut''' is an [[Adventure Map]] location, that offers a quest for the players to fulfill. Completing the conditions of the quest, and returning to the Hut, a hero will be prompted a question whether or not he wants to receive the reward. All your quests will be logged in the Quest Log. Returning to the Hut after having received the quest but before completing it, a hero might get a message that contains more hints about fulfilling the quest. Seer's Hut can offer more than one quest, but only once the previous quest(s) had been completed, as well as "Multiple" quests, that can be fulfilled an unlimited number of times (only in [[HotA]] {{-wh}}). The multiple quests will go through the list, starting from the top, until the last one is completed, and then go through the list, starting from the top again. This will be repeated until the end of the game.

In [[Restoration of Erathia]]{{-wr}}, only one type of quest is available:
* Return with an [[artifact]]. (''They are lost when completing the quest.'')

In [[Armageddon's Blade]]{{-wa}} and later, there are several different types of quests available (same as [[Quest Guard]]):
* Achieve certain [[experience]] level
* Achieve certain levels in [[primary skill]]s (''They can be independent for each skill.'')
* Defeat a specific hero*
* Defeat a specific [[wandering creature]] stack*
* Return with an [[artifact]] or artifacts (''They are lost when completing the quest.'')
* Return with [[resource]]s (''They are lost when completing the quest.'')
* Return with a specific number of specific creatures (''They are lost when completing the quest.'')
* Be a specific hero
* Be a specific color
<nowiki>*</nowiki> NOTE: Defeat quests can only be completed by the player who actually defeated the required hero/wandering monster. This can lead to some quests becoming un-completable if that player is subsequently defeated.

Also, there are several different types of rewards, that are:
* [[Experience]]
* [[Spell point]]s
* [[Morale]] (+1/+2/+3)
* [[Luck]] (+1/+2/+3)
* One type of [[resource]]
* Increase to one of the [[primary skill]]s
* A [[secondary skill]] (ignoring hero class restrictions)
* One [[artifact]]
* One [[spell]] (the proper level of [[Wisdom]] skill is required)
* One type of [[creature]]s

Additionally, the Seer's Hut can be set to reward the hero with nothing. This can be used to enable the next Seer's Hut quest.

Once the Seer's Hut no longer offers any quests (all previous quests had been completed and there are no "Multiple quests"), it becomes empty, and an appropriate message plays whenever it's visited.

== Random maps ==
In random maps, all Seer's Huts will look for a random artifact located on the map. The rewards vary from creatures, gold or experience (33% chance for each reward on average).

== {{hota}} ==
Additional appearances were added, as well as a water version. Seer's Huts can additionally offer more than one quest in a custom order, including repeating quests.
1 [[Gregory Fulton]] has suggested in his [[Greg Fulton/Fanstratics Newsletters/5#Tavern of Might and Magic Interview (part 3 of 5)|Tavern of Might and Magic Interview]] that griffins being tamed by Edric's "great-grandfather" is probably an error and should likely be replaced by "ancestor", as that happened during or before [[Rion Gryphonheart]]'s time, which was much more than three human generations ago. Compared to other level 3 units, both Griffins have adequate stats with the only weakness being their relatively low damage. Edric's specialty will not only make Royal Griffins the 2nd fastest level 3 unit at 10 [[Speed]] (only [[Serpent Fly and Dragon Fly|Dragon Flies]] are faster), but also somewhat mitigate their low damage thanks to the increased attack. His secondary skills make him a decent starting hero while further improving the performance of the Griffins as Armorer leads to less casualties (improving the strength of the Griffin's retaliations) and Leadership can allow for extra attacks (along with mitigating the chance of losing turns due to low morale). Keep in mind that as a Knight, Edric has the lowest chance of all the hero classes to learn [[Earth Magic]] which can cause issues later in the game if he doesn't learn it due to the improvements spells such as [[Resurrection]], [[Town Portal]], and [[Slow]] get when cast with Expert Earth Magic.
{{About|Note: This article refers to the adventure map location "[[Seer's Hut]]", not the similar sounding adventure map location "[[Hut of the Magi]]".}}

In [[Armageddon's Blade]]{{-wa}} and later, there are several different types of quests available:
* Achieve certain [[experience]] level
* Achieve certain levels in [[primary skill]]s (''They can be independent for each skill.'')
* Defeat a specific hero*
* Be a specific hero
* Be a specific color
<nowiki>*</nowiki> NOTE: Defeat quests can only be completed by the player who actually defeated the required hero/wandering monster. This can lead to some quests becoming un-completable if that player is subsequently defeated.

Also, there are several different types of rewards, that are:
* [[Experience]]
* [[Spell point]]s
* [[Morale]] (+1/+2/+3)
* [[Luck]] (+1/+2/+3)
* One type of [[resource]]
* Increase to one of the [[primary skill]]s
* A [[secondary skill]] (ignoring hero class restrictions)
* One [[artifact]]
* One [[spell]] (the proper level of [[Wisdom]] skill is required)
* One type of [[creature]]s

== Random maps ==
In random maps, all Seer's Huts will look for a random artifact located on the map. The rewards vary from creatures, gold or experience (33% chance for each reward on average).

== {{hota}} ==
Additional appearances were added, as well as a water version. Seer's Huts can additionally offer more than one quest in a custom order, including repeating quests.

'''Armageddon's Blade''' is the first of two [[expansions]] for {{homm3}}. It was developed by New World Computing for Microsoft Windows and released by the 3DO Company in 1999.

== Synopsis ==
=== Plot ===

* [[Kilgor]] - a ruthless [[Barbarian]] king

The last campaign is a less serious campaign chock full of pop culture references that serves as the origin story of [[Christian]], an aspiring fragrance alchemist.

=== Characters ===

== Features ==

* New types of vegetation for each terrain;
* Models of [[Abandoned Mine]]s for each terrain;
* [[Border Gate]]s, which, unlike [[Border Guard]]s, do not disappear after a hero has passed through them;
* Expanded quest types for [[Seer's Hut]]s, with objectives beyond "returning with a single artifact";
== Critical Reception ==
Armageddon's Blade was hailed with strongly positive reviews upon release, from critics and users alike. IGN's reviewer noted improvements made to the map editor and praised the amount of new content, while GameSpot focused on the addition of the Conflux alignment and subtle tweaks to the gameplay. Game Revolution's reviewer was mildly disappointed with the Conflux town and its use of neutral creatures already included in the base game but praised the campaign storyline and gameplay along with the addition of new features. Some reviews were critical of the lack of drastic changes to the base game while pointing out that the core mechanics were in no need of major improvements.
