== History ==
A land once battled over by humans, elves, and other invaders, featured in the [[Seeds of Discontent]] campaign. The Contested Lands is a region and independent nation on the continent of [[Antagarich]].

After the [[Restoration Wars]], fearing that [[Erathia]] and [[AvLee]] would resume hostilities with each other and that they would be caught in the crossfire, the inhabitants of the Contested Lands wage a war of their own for independence and ultimately were victorious. Unbeknownst to them, however, their war was secretly orchestrated by [[Archibald Ironfist]].

[[Welnin]] was founded as its new capitol, with the installation of the [[Grail]] cementing its position in the land.

In 1151, a group of citizens in the Contested Lands claimed to be descendants of the [[Phynaxia]]n Empire, and demanded their independence, by force if necessary. [[Catherine Gryphonheart]], who at the time was serving in [[Erathia]]'s army, was forced to take her troops and put down the rebellion. After the rebellion, it came to light that the whole rebellion was a setup by [[Erathia]]n General [[Connel Traxton]] in an attempt to stop [[Catherine]]'s swift rise through the ranks of the military.
