Resources are required to build town structures or buy things like troops, boats and primary/secondary skills. They are divided into basic resources (wood, ore and gold) and magical resources (crystal, gems, mercury and sulfur).
Resources are typically received from mines, gathering loose resourced from the adventure map or visiting certain adventure map locations like windmill.
