== Spell Damage == Spells can deal damage much like creatures do, except that the amount of inflicted damage does not vary within a range but is fixed. The exact amount of unmodified spell damage can always be calculated with a linear formula. For example, basic Lightning Bolt cast by a hero with 7 spell power does 7 × 25 + 10 = 185 damage. For other spells different values than 25 and 10 need to be substituted. === Increasing spell damage === * The Sorcery secondary skill increases spell damage for all spells.

wh Adrienne increases spell damage for fire spells.

* The Orb of Silt, Orb of Firmament, Orb of Driving Rain and Orb of Tempestuous Fire increase the damage of Earth/Air/Water/Fire spells by 50%, respectively. * Some Heroes increase spell damage by 5%/10% per hero level / creature level when casting the spell they specialize in (e.g. Xyron). * Other Heroes increase spell damage of the spell they specialize in by a percentage which never changes (e.g. Ciele). * Some Elementals take double damage from certain spells. Fire Elementals, for example, are vulnerable to Ice Bolt. === Reducing spell damage === * The damage that Golems take from spells is reduced by 50%-95% (depending on the type of golem). * The spells Protection from Air, Earth, Fire and Water reduce spell damage from the school they protect against by 30%, or even by 50% when cast at basic or advanced/expert level.

wh Interference doesn't modify the damage formula, but instead reduces the spell power of the caster.

=== Preventing spells from being cast === * Orb of Inhibition and Anti-Magic Garrison ban all spells (with a few exceptions - see the individual pages). * There are some artifacts which make your units immune to a certain damage spell (e.g. Pendant of Negativity), or disallow casting certain spells to both sides (e.g. Recanter's Cloak). * Some creatures are naturally immune to some damage spells (e.g. Fire Elemental), or even to all spells (e.g. Black Dragon). === Resisting spells once they are cast=== NOTE: Resisting a spell wastes the caster's spell points and the spell cast for the turn. * The magic resistance ability (e.g. Dwarves) * The Resistance secondary skill * Resistance artifacts (e.g. Boots of Polarity)
