Like with [[monolith]]s, a hero can travel to an unoccupied square next to a wandering monster stack without engaging in combat (patched in HDmod). A hero may pick up nearby objects from adjacent squares without causing wandering monsters to attack. In other words, a hero can turn within the square but if the hero tries to move to a square adjacent to the monster stack, combat will ensue.
