== Term == What kind of "wandering creatures" are these? )) This term is not used anywhere (if I am wrong, please indicate the source). They are called neutral troops or neutral units. -- Nick Bud (talk) 14:18, 13 February 2025 (UTC) * Wandering Creature: Restoration of Erathia Manual Page 18, Restoration of Erathia Manual Page 40 * Wandering Monster: Restoration of Erathia Manual Page 10, Restoration of Erathia Manual Page 14, Restoration of Erathia Manual Page 19, etc. * I think Neutral creature only refers to the creatures that don't go with a specific town. I can't find any official references to neutral troops/units. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong :) --Legate (talk) 14:32, 13 February 2025 (UTC) :Wandering monster is jargon from old-school tabletop RPGs; synonymous to "random encounter". The idea is that in a pen-and-paper adventure, there are both set encounters (e.g., this 10x10 ft. room contains one orc guarding a chest) and wandering/random encounter (e.g. if the players spend more than two minutes in this room, some monster randomly rolled from a table wanders in and attacks). I would agree the term is maybe not really fitting to HoMM, as those wandering monsters do not actually wander. They stay put on their tile forever. :The term "neutral" has its own problems, however: 1. it's neutral alignment (as in, good, evil, neutral), 2. it's neutral town alignment (as in, not belonging to any town), and 3. it is indeed also used for creatures that are not part of a hero's army. --Turnam (talk) 17:41, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
