Location of Steadwick?[edit | hide | hide all]

This might be a discrepancy between mm7 and homm3. Should it be located in Battlestead or Erathia Plains? The Lost Lore also mentions it is near the Teal River. Should we maybe add notes as to the source of the town's location? --Legate (talk) 17:35, 1 August 2025 (UTC)

Judging from the Steadwick's Fall in-game map, Steadwick isn't in Battlestead itself, but rather a bit to the northwest of it. Note the lake in the middle of the scenario map. Steadwick is located northwest of this lake, and it seems to be the same lake that sits right on the northern part of Battlestead on the campaign map (the general shape matches). To the south of this lake is apparently also the northern tip of Griffin Cliff's lake, corroborating the point above.

MM7 is even more clear about Steadwick being located northwest of Battlestead. It also clearly shows the Teal River, right down to the player being able to hear the river's sound from Castle Gryphonheart, like in that short story. MM7 also retcons the area surrounding Steadwick by adding in the large lake from an H3 promotional image (this lake was missing from the maps in H3 itself), with Steadwick being on this lake's southern coast. However, both H3 and MM7 seem to place Steadwick northwest of Battlestead.

An important thing to remember is that RoE campaign scenarios don't always take place entirely within the region shaded on the campaign map. Sometimes the shaded region indicates where the mission starts, or just one important region involved in it. The biggest example of this is Tunnels and Troglodytes. In a similar vein, the northern part of the Borderlands scenario map is apparently outside of Marshland, and the scenario has the player invade through the Erathian border. Overall, it looks like something like that is the case with Steadwick's Fall/Liberation. That's why I mentioned in my edits of the Battlestead article that Steadwick located near this region, and that the Nighon-Eeofol armies attacked the city from Battlestead.

It is possible that I'm misinterpreting something, but I'm fairly certain that even in H3 Steadwick isn't within Battlestead, but near its northwestern edge. --XEL (talk) 20:07, 1 August 2025 (UTC)

  • That all makes good sense to me. I'll delete the Steadwick reference in Battlestead. I think with this logic, we can also say that the Teal River is the one that flows along the Erathia Plains/Avauntnell border. --Legate (talk) 20:21, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
