Template talk:Appear
Features[edit | hide | hide all]
- Lets us control the listed order from here
- Removes the need for each hero page to correctly add the superscript/note for old campaigns.
- (minor) No need for the hero pages to list campaign links in full
Thoughts?[edit | hide]
I am thinking about reworking the appearances section on the hero pages now that a bunch are getting fairly long. Thoughts on this design? Any way to make it easier to use or better visually? --Legate (talk) 16:51, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- Good idea to condense it; I'll brainstorm tonight and have a think, but I like this idea! I'd change the first header to "Mainline Campaigns" or something like that though.

I don't think the table is good idea for a presentation. Most of the times, one or two of the columns will be empty. The flag colors based on player/ally/enemy status is an iffy choice because it won't necessarily correspond to their actual color in-game. The caption about old campaign should only appear if there is an old campaign in the list. --Turnam (talk) 09:56, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- We can use something like conditional formatting to hide unused rows/columns - example 2b may be usable here.
14:07, 24 June 2025 (UTC) - Ok, good feedback. I conditionally hid the columns/note about very old campaign appearances. Does that help? Are there other symbols that would be more clear for player/enemy/ally? --Legate (talk) 14:37, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- I'm thinking that cursors might fit for player/enemy symbols. Sword
for enemy, Trade
for ally, and Hero
for player would make intuitive sense to me. Or maybe the hero for ally, and Horse
for player. - Ok, I switched to player/enemy/ally templates, so it should be somewhat easy to play with the icons now. I agree that the symbols are more intuitive, but something about the colors/icons seems more cluttered to me. Thoughts? --Legate (talk) 13:38, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- I standardized the icon sizes and that definitely helps...maybe lose the bullet now too? See Cuthbert. Unfortunately, this requires a bunch more formatting on each page, so unless we can figure out how to pull more of the formatting into this page, it probably isn't ideal. --Legate (talk) 13:48, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, found better syntax to remove the bullets but keep the indent. --Legate (talk) 14:16, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- I'm thinking that cursors might fit for player/enemy symbols. Sword
"Primary Campaigns" is kind of weird. How about calling it "Heroes 3 Complete"? Would be more in-line with using titles for Heroes Chronicles and Horn of the Abyss.
- Good point!
