A common misunderstanding is that magic restiance artifacts need Resistance secondary skill in order to work - as for example archery artifacts (Bow of Elven Cherrywood) need Archery skill to work. However, magic resistance artifacts increase magic resistance of creatures without the magic resistance secondary skill.
