Ancients
The Ancients are a super-developed society whose grand experiments and works serve as the cornerstore of the background lore in all of New World Computing's Might and Magic games, including the Heroes spin-off series.
Their realm of influence is described as spanning the farthest reaches of the universe, and also includes time travel and alternate planes of existence. Drawing their power from the heat and light of stars, the Ancients create intricate mechanisms of society, then send these civilizations to cultivate developing worlds as part of their colonization experiments. They seeded Enroth, Axeoth and myriad other planets with various peoples and creatures. They also modify worlds to better suit their purposes, creating some altogether.
The Silence is what the inhabitants of planet Enroth call the loss of contact with the Ancients, which led to the decline of this prosperous colony.
