'''Commanders''' are special units that assist a [[hero]] and fight for them on the battlefield, in addition to the regular army stacks. Each hero's commander will gain experience and skills in battle like the hero does. This is a gameplay element similar to how in {{homm4}}, the hero can participate in the fight directly. 

The commander's character sheet can be accessed from the Commander icon [[File:WoG Commander Icon.png]] from the Hero's character sheet.

A commander can die in combat, if their hero is not defeated, they can resurrect their fallen commander by visiting a friendly [[town]]. By gaining levels and skills, a Commander's stats increase and it becomes more and more powerful. A high-level commander can single-handedly turn the tide of a battle.
