He was captured and imprisoned by the [[barbarian]]s and eventually rescued by {{Hn|Bidley|0=}}. In gratitude for being saved, he told [[Bidley]] the location of [[Island of the Vengeful Serpent]] - the resting place of the {{An|Horn of the Abyss}}. [[Bidley]] (and maybe others) believed him to be a {{Cn|Mage}}.

Xanthor (along with [[Marcus Finch]]) is a professors at the [[University of Erathia]] and the narrator of a few legendary accounts of events around [[Antagarich]] during the events of {{homm3}}. According to these stories, he is the nephew of {{Hn|Agar|0=}} and has 'little training in the mystical arts'.
