Hand-to-hand attack, or also commonly called melee attack, refers to a creature's way to deal damage to an opponent. In hand-to-hand attack the creature engages into physical combat as opposite to ranged attack. This exposes the creature to retaliation, a counter melee attack from the opponent. According to the game manual, some creatures (e.g. Devils) attacks are so fearsome, that they do not leave the opponent chance to retaliate.
