They disappear after the combat ends even if any of them survived, so if you killed all enemies but lost all your army besides the summoned elementals, both sides lose the battle. {{user commentary|Earth Elementals are the best Elementals to summon. Even though they may be actually the worst elemental overall to recruit since they are slow and the weakest level 5 unit, Earth Elementals have the most HP and damage per unit of all elementals. Since elemental summon spells only care for the number summoned (according to Spell Power) and not total HP or other stats, summoning Earth Elementals gives more raw power and toughness than any other type. A great deal of their speed disadvantage is negated, since you don't need (and can't) have the summoned elementals in your adventure map army.
 
The immunity to Armageddon also allows using this spell to decimate the enemy army while the elementals remain untouched.
