| You have found a Griffin Conservatory. Do you wish to attack the guards? * * * You have found what once was a Griffin Conservatory, but it has been deserted for some time. | ||||||||
Griffin Conservatory is an adventure map location commonly known as a creature bank.

The guards are divided into five stacks (red hexes). There is a 50% chance of getting an upgraded stack in the lower left corner (C hex). All the guard stacks of the same speed attack in alphabetic order of these hexes. The hero's troops are located in blue hexes 1-7 (a tail hex for two-hexed creatures) according to stack positioning in the army slots 1-7. If the hero has less than 7 stacks, e.g. 3, they will be placed in hexes 1-3 no matter how they were placed in the army slots.
Though war machines are not present on the battlefield, they still provide their passive bonuses (i.e. the infinite shots effect from Ammo Cart and the First Aid/First Aid Tent health boost
).
Slain enemies do not respawn (should the hero retreat or be defeated). The damaged stack's losses will not be redistributed among the others. If a stack was destroyed, it changes the guards disposition. Its place on the battlefield will be taken by the next one in the attacking order. (E.g.: If A stack was destroyed, B stack takes its place, C stack takes the freshly vacated place of B and so on).
In Horn of the Abyss, the object's level can be preset by a map-maker and the upgraded stack option may be toggled on or off.
Trivia[edit | hide | hide all]
In Restoration of Erathia, 40/60/80/100 Griffins in Griffin Conservatory guarded 2/3/4/5 Angels. Traces of this still can be found in the Map Editor's rightclick hints.

The table shows how to pre-check the guard strength of an object without attacking it.
Guarding stacks accentuated with bold font should be considered in the first place.

User Commentary
Griffin conservatories are one of the most important objects on virtually any random map template. The reward, Angels, are the most powerful creature which can be obtained from any of the creature banks; moreover, even a single angel can defeat many of the other adventure map objects, such as Crypts or Churchyards, even on level 1 heroes.
Defeating a griffin conservatory near the town should thus be one of the top priorities to improve the tempo.
Melee powerstack
In case of a melee powerstack with speed 6 or more, which is powerful enough to kill the Griffin stack with a single attack + retaliation, the powerstack itself and 6 1-stacks in slots 2-7 should be enough to defeat the Griffins.
If an upgraded stack (of Royal Griffins) is present, they will attack one of the 1-stacks, provided the powerstack is strong enough. Should this happen, simply attack the Royal Griffins with your powerstack (since there will be a hex available which cannot be reached by the other griffins, and use the 1-stacks to ensure the Griffins on the top left corner do not move, and instead attack a 1-stack next to them. Use a single 1-stack to draw griffin's attention away, while the power-stack kills griffins one-by-one.
If there is no upgraded stack, you should have speed priority, letting you kill the top-left Griffins stack at the start of the combat. Then proceed to draw attention of griffins away, using your 1-stacks, killing enemies one by one.
