Liches' death cloud special ability only works when they attack at range. In addition to normal ranged attack damage in target hex, the death cloud also causes a "puff of death" that affects all 6 adjacent hexes around the target hex dealing damage to all living creatures in the radius. The damage is caused equally to allied and enemy creatures, and the amount is calculated individually for all affected creatures. Two hexes wide creatures do not suffer additional damage if both of their hexes are affected. Although Liches also defend Necropolis towns in arrow towers, their attacks follow the arrow tower calculations, and do not apply the death cloud effect.
Zombies have disease special ability, which may occur before the target stack has a chance to retaliate. The attack has 20% chance of causing the target to become ill, which causes the target stack to have their attack and defense values reduced by two for a period of three rounds. Disease can only be removed with Cure spell.

It should be noted, that the immunity only concerns the cloud causing damage to adjacent hexes. It does not protect creatures from liches' normal ranged attack damage.

Liches and Power Liches can shoot death cloud at any hex of the battlefield except for its own hex and adjacent ones (unless sniper bow is present). Targeting dialogue is called by pressing G.
Zombies are bad. Tragically bad, only due to their lowest speed in the game, next to the peasant. They're so bad, the AI computers usually won't buy them up or upgrade their graveyard (and you possibly shouldn't either) in the early game, they can usually go toe-to-to with another second-level melee creature, but that's about the best you can hope for from these extremely weak level 2 creatures. Even when defending a castle, there usually are better deals than them. Save your gold. Necropolis Town is not the cheapest, and you'll want to be able to buy up those Dread Knights and Ghost Dragons when they become available.

Walking Dead and Zombies are level 2 creatures of Necropolis town. They are recruited from the Graveyard.

"Walking Dead and Zombies are magically animated corpses. Zombies have a 20% chance to cause disease in creatures they attack. Diseased creatures have their attack and defense ratings reduced by two for a period of three rounds." RoE manual

Walking dead can also be raised with Basic Necromancy if the hero has equipped the Cloak of the Undead King.

Special ability disease

Zombies have disease special ability, which may occur before the target stack has a chance to retaliate. The attack has 20% chance of causing the target to become ill, which causes the target stack to have their attack and defense values reduced by two for a period of three rounds. Disease can only be removed with Cure spell.

Heroes with a specialty
 • Straker Straker the Death Knight has walking dead as a specialty, which increases the Attack and Defense skills of any Walking Dead or Zombies for each level attained after 2nd level and gives them a speed bonus of 1.

General Tactics and Info
