Dispels beneficial spells after attack.

Serpent and Dragon Flies are the level 3 creatures of Fortress. They are recruited from the Serpent Fly Hive. Both flies apply their dispelling ability every time they attack. No creatures are immune to it and it can not be resisted in any way.

"These giant, flying insects attack by striking with their tail stingers. Their attacks dispel any beneficial spells affecting their target. In addition, the Dragon Flies have the ability to cast Weakness on their opponent every time they attack." SoD manual

Heroes with a specialty[edit | hide | hide all]

Restoration of Erathia and Armageddon's Blade[edit | hide]

In the original Restoration of Erathia and Armageddon's Blade versions, Serpent and Dragon Flies both had an Attack of 6 and a Defense of 8. Dragon Flies also did not have the ability to cast Weakness. Their stats were buffed and the Weakness was ability added for Shadow of Death as well as Restoration of Erathia patch 1.3 and Armageddon's Blade patch 2.1.

Horn of the Abyss[edit | hide]

  • Fortress heroes spawn with a minimum of three Serpent Flies in the stack instead of two (2-4 to 3-4).
  • In HOTA, Dragon Flies upon successful attack cast the Dispel, which is not a passive standalone ability, that will allow Sphere of Permanence to reflect it

Upgrade Serpent Flies to Dragon Flies as soon as possible. As third-level creatures both Serpent and Dragon Flies are easy to acquire, and with great speed of 9 or 13 they make excellent creatures for rushing through the map, thus being useful for a supportive/secondary hero. Hero with only Serpent or Dragon Flies in the army will move rapidly to scout areas, and with high spell points and power skill can even get through wandering creatures. Due to their Dispel ability, Serpent and Dragon Flies will be very useful when attacking enemy units buffed with spells such as Bless, Bloodlust, or Haste, which will no longer affect them after the flies strike. Defend these units as they are somewhat fragile, as opposed to Basilisks and Gorgons. There can be even an army made only of Dragon Flies, with dozens in each slot.
