The Silence
The Silence is a major event in the history of Enroth. Enrothian history is divided into two important eras: Before the Silence (BS) and After the Silence (AS).
Enroth was colonized by the Ancients, a futuristic civilization presiding over an interstellar empire. All of their worlds were connected by a network known as the Web of Worlds. When the Kreegans went to war with the Ancients, the great web was damaged during their attacks, breaking and disrupting it. With that, the Ancients could no longer communicate with many of the planets in their empire. From the perspective of the people of Enroth, this was seen as a great Silence from their rulers. Before the Silence (BS) was known as the Time of Wonders, when the futuristic technology of the Ancients allowed for the creation of powerful artifacts. After the Silence (AS) was a descent into barbarism and conflict. The primary campaigns in Heroes of Might and Magic III take place around 1155-1171 AS.
Worlds affected by the Silence include:
- Enroth (setting of Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven, Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor, Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer, Heroes of Might and Magic: A Strategic Quest, Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars, Heroes of Might and Magic III, and Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era)
- Axeoth (setting of Might and Magic IX and Heroes of Might and Magic IV, as well as Lost Tales of Axeoth extension for Might & Magic: Heroes VII)

The people of Enroth believed the Silence was caused by the concurrent, though in reality unrelated, Day of Fire.
