The tuunbaq is a pop-culture reference to a monster from Dan Simmons's novel The Terror and its TV series adaptation; probably inspired by the Tupilaq of Inuit mythology. In Frontier, Jeremy considers the presence of demons to be a worse news than the presence of Tuunbaq, so we can assume that those Tuunbaqs are much less formidable than they are in The Terror.
