Overall Resolution[edit | hide | hide all]

As the main Antagarich map is created by the HotA team, it is not 100% official (though it is a good starting point). Leaving the official regions of the Contested lands as the ones seen in the Seeds of Discontent campaign. This also matches the map found in the MM7 adventurers' guide. Notes are added to the relevant pages.

Contested Lands boundaries[edit | hide]

I am collecting information on what regions belong to the Contested Lands/Erathia/AvLee.

  • Using the main Antagarich map, the region marked as Contested Lands covers several areas found in other maps.
  • Gem talks about the Contested Lands in the New Beginning campaign.
    • Clearing the Border visually appears to be in the other half of the Strongwillow/Woodgrove region, but the text seems to imply that it occurs around Clovergreen in an area that Gem refers to as the Contested Lands.
    • Retrieving the Cowl looks to be taking place in Marble Garden and Gem refers to the area as the Contested Lands.
    • POSSIBLE EXPLANATION: Maybe not all the areas known as the Contested Lands managed to break away from Erathia and become a part of the new Contested Lands nation?
  • Armageddon's Blade (campaign)
    • Catherine's Charge - Catherine seems to be occupying part of the Contested Lands to hold a battle against Eeofol.
      • She refers to Moss Valley as part of Erathia, although this makes sense with the area being contested...each nation thinks of it as their own.
        • RESOLUTION: Moss Valley should be part of the Contested Lands.
    • Maker of Sorrows - Sleen claims that Khazandar is being held in the Contested Lands. He is actually found in the area south of Great Lake (Erathia).
      • RESOLUTION: I think we can just chalk this up to Sleen being wrong in his guess as opposed to the area south of the lake being part of the Contested Lands.
  • Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor
    • Some of the events of the game center around Harmondale, which is said to be part of the Contested Lands disputed by Erathia and AvLee.
      • Based on what the played does, Harmondale can go to Erathia, AvLee, or gain its independence. The player can also either worsen the war by allowing Deyjan influence in or bring it to a peaceful conclusion.
    • QUESTION: Is it worth bringing any of the story of Harmondale into this page, or just mention that the Contested Lands were featured in Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor? --Legate (talk) 17:59, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
It's actually not even Sleen himself, but Lucifer who says that Khazandar is in the Contested Lands, summarizing Sleen's information. So, even more chance of him being wrong/inaccurate :) Then again, he isn't even necessarily wrong. Khazandar is just south of the Great Lake anyway, and it's not like we were ever told "anything an inch outside of the Mosswood border is not the Contested Lands". Basically, this can easily be the fact that Khazandar is on the southern outskirts of the Contested Lands that stretch a little into Grainrich, and/or a generalization on Lucifer's part.
Not to mention that SoD soon established that "the Contested Lands" is a fluctuating term, and that different areas can be attributed to them due to borders being in dispute. Plus Grainrich even contains that peculiar area from Target that has Ufretin's Rampart and even a Krewlodian Stronghold.
The Contested Lands nation from Seeds fate is a curious case in general. We don't really know what happened to it, but it's clear from MM7 alone that the nation doesn't control all of Welnin (Cloverfield-Mosswood-Forestdale), with the lands around Harmondale once again being disputed and even warred over by AvLee and Erathia. Archibald alluding to having manipulated the events of Seeds also fits well with the mention from Independence that a larger war could be ignited if they fail to drive the rule of AvLee and Erathia from the area - in a way, that's exactly what we see in MM7 with the Harmondale war. There is even a good chance that the Contested Lands nation was quickly conquered by Erathia and AvLee following Seeds, but that's not confirmed and open for interpretation. For all we know, it could still be around somewhere in this region, just not de facto controlling the area. --XEL (talk) 02:15, 9 August 2025 (UTC)

Harmondale[edit | hide]

  • Harmondale and the Contested Lands are two very different concepts, removed the mention of Harmondale. --FirePaladin2 (talk) 19:46, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
