Catherine. Xanthor was instrumental in saving the world from Escaton's cataclysm. He constructed the Conflux Key that allowed the heroes of Jadame to enter Escaton's Crystal and, from there, reach the Destroyer himself on the Plane Between Planes.
Lost Lore 
Xanthor (along with Marcus Finch) is a professor at the University of Erathia and the narrator of a few legendary accounts of events around Antagarich during the events of Heroes of Might and Magic III. According to these stories, he is the nephew of 
Agar and has 'little training in the mystical arts'.
Horn of the Abyss 
He was captured and imprisoned by the barbarians and eventually rescued by 
Bidley. In gratitude for being saved, he told Bidley the location of Island of the Vengeful Serpent - the resting place of the 
Horn of the Abyss. But the truth was, he hoped that the pirate would die.
Later, after finally getting the Horn of the Abyss, Bidley was asked to give it to Gavin Magnus by 
Solmyr. He quickly suspected Xanthor of telling the Wizards about the Horn.

Trivia
- Xanthor has noticeably increased his magic training by the time of Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer. Particularly, he learned much from Erathia's elemental allies.
- As of Terror of the Seas, he is renowned as a mage.
