An empire in southern Antagarich. Also known as the Empire of Phynax.
History[edit | hide | hide all]
Phynaxia was a nation in the steppes of southeast Antagarich, part of Erathia by the outset of the Timber Wars. What would eventually become the Welnin region of the Contested Lands was located to the north of it. Immediately after the Timber Wars ended, Phynaxia broke away from Erathia, becoming the Phynaxian Empire in 790 AS. It then expanded over the following decades.
The empire's lands contained a rare metal called stalt. Extremely hard and taking well to enchantment, stalt contributed heavily to Phynaxian military might. However, very little of it could be mined, and Phynaxia fell in 864 to an elven offensive. It was eventually absorbed back into Erathia.
Lost Lore
In 1151, a group of citizens in the Contested Lands claimed to be descendants of the Phynaxian Empire, and demanded their independence, by force if necessary. Catherine Gryphonheart, who at the time was serving in Erathia's army, was forced to take her troops and put down the rebellion.
Trivia[edit | hide]
- The lore points to the former Phynaxian Empire spanning much of Grainrich and Fire Coast, and apparently other territories as well.
- Phynaxian Empire is described in Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven and Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor, where the player can find its various artifacts, and mentioned in the Restoration of Erathia tie-in story Queen Catherine.
- Thant is rumored to have become a vampire in Phynaxia.
