This artifact only slightly reduces the [[spell power]] of an opposing enemy hero, instead of granting Resistance ([[Resistance]] also works against neutral creatures).
As of HotA version 1.7.2 this artifact confers magic resistance as stated, regardless of the fact [[Resistance]] as a secondary skill is banned by default and largely replaced with [[Interference]].
 
Previous versions of HotA changed the effect of this artifact to an interference-like effect, but this change was reverted.

Effect: Worn about the shoulders, this item increases your magic resistance by 10%.
You've come upon a fight between a Necromancer and a Paladin. The Necromancer blasts the Paladin with a fire bolt, bringing him to his knees. Acting quickly, you slay the evil one before the final blow. The grateful Paladin gives you the cloak that saved him.

Surcoat of Counterpoise is a Major class artifact equipped in the Cape slot. While equipped the artifact increases magic resistance of a hero's army by 10%. It should be noted, that the artifact increases magic resistance whether or not the hero has the resistance secondary skill.
