Revision as of 22:19, 2 February 2024

General/Ongoing

  1. Help clear the Maintenance Reports for unused/broken/wanted items!
  2. Check out and verify Did you know?#Unverified claims
  3. Look for pages that need help and report them here (e.g. unreadable color scheme, missing info)
  4. Use {{unk}} to mark text we need to fill in. That way all the unknown text will link to that template!
    • Also, help clear the pages linking to the template by filling in the missing info.
  5. Record any in-game bugs found here: List of bugs (HotA)

Factory

  1. Clear out Special:WantedFiles
    • TODO: A bunch of these just need already uploaded pngs to be converted to gifs:
    • NOTES:
      • Great job with all the file uploads, imahero! --Legate (talk) 20:44, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
      • It looks as if assets that should be animated gifs are uploaded as a png with all the frames next to each other (e.g. File:Avgarma.png). Is there an easy/automatic way to convert these to gifs?
      • Here is an archive with all the images extracted using MMArchive. MMArchive doesn't have the same limitations as FreeHeroes so you should be able to find everything there. –imahero 23:14, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
  2. Add Factory puzzle map section to Obelisk
  3. Add all Forged in Fire campaign scenario map info/events.

Specific

Community Requests

  1. Write tips on campaign scenario pages (212.112.111.20)
    • Sometimes there are tips on the main campaign pages under User Commentary. (e.g. Dragon's Blood)
    • I've noticed there are a bunch of strategy/tips on https://mightandmagic.fandom.com/wiki/Tunnels_of_Ice. Should/Can we cite/copy that info here or leave a link to them?
      • The CC BY-SA seems like a very open license. I would just add attribution using the appropriate link (to the edit summary)
  2. A page (perhaps Maps/extra) with links to resources with extra maps and overall other external resources (such as h3 assist, etc) could be useful, especially for beginners. Is that allowed with the wiki, though? Can we link f.e. Xenofex's h3assist or maps4heroes and write how they're popular among players? - Csaros
    • Yes. Anything related to Heroes 3 should be fine here. We already have a list for tools. Individual pages for each tool would also be fine. –imahero 19:16, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

Research/Explain game concepts

  1. Breath Attack could use a diagram of how it works (specifically when attacking straight up or down)
    • I found this, but I have no idea the accuracy or completeness. --Legate (talk) 03:43, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
      • This may be affected by Mechanics and Engineers as these are the first 1-tile creatures with a breath attack.
        • ANECDOTE: I did notice a...bug? nuance?...with attacker's Engineers attacking in the down-left direction vs. a 2-tile enemy not hitting the expected second tile. --Legate (talk) 16:11, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
          • Actually, this is related to the pic just above. In the pic, top row, second from the left, I expected there to be a 2nd red arrow going in the down-left direction. The diagram does not have one, which matched the in-game behavior I saw. --Legate (talk) 15:32, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
          • There is a bug (perhaps intended) that if a Mechanic attacks a two hex creature (usually I found it when attacking from the hex right above or right below the 2-hex monster) with the sword-arrow pointing to the direction from which she came to attack, the fire attack follows the direction of her movement and not the direction of the sword-arrow. - Csaros
  2. Obstacle Penalty could use a diagram or explanation of how it works. Is it everything inside the ring wall? Does obstacle penalty disappear when the wall goes down?
    • I think it's still there even if a part of a wall is broken - Csaros
  3. Add Orb of Vulnerability interactions to the Spell immunity page. Check the ones that we're not certain about (I tested Mechanicals recently so that's 100%) because recently Aleksejs found a lot of errors in regards to Orb-Spell immunity interactions. A lot of stuff is still unclear: Up until recently Lexiav claimed that Orb removes Arma res form you and not opponent and honestly it's a confusing mess. Having it in one file and checked one more file seems the best way to fix this. - Csaros (talk) 11:16, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
  4. I think it would be worth adding a page or two about AI behaviour in detail, such as how it affects kiting, etc. -- Csaros (talk)

Content: Page Creation/Updating

  1. Map Editor could use a bunch more info or link to a map editor tutorial.
  2. Create a Campaign Editor page.
  3. Single scenarios: Add all the timed/object events like seen on the campaign scenarios.
    • I know this is a huge task. Figured I would just put it here for if we run out of other stuff to do in the future :) --Legate (talk) 15:42, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
    • Probably want to figure out a way to automatically export/convert text into the form we want.
  4. Update Factory's build tree to match other towns
  5. Finish updating campaign scenario pages:
    1. Add remaining right-click text to: HC, HotA campaigns
      • This text can either be found in-game or under "regionText" in the json export from FeeHeroes tool.
    2. Switch campaign cinematics from still images to template:cvid.
      • TODO: Campaigns: HC
      • NOTE: I had to ask Terra to increase the upload size for the last videos, but I don't think anything should be missing now. (See most recent uploaded files.) Let me know if there is anything I actually missed and need to try to hunt down! –imahero 05:25, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
    3. Upload/add remaining campaign maps: HC
  6. There is a discussion surrounding what the actual victory conditions are on some levels. see Talk:List of campaign maps (HotA) for details.
    • On discord Vlad stated that we cannot trust the json files unfortunately. So yes, need to manually verify. –imahero 22:19, 2 February 2024 (UTC)

File upload/editing

NOTE: In a command terminal run: "oxipng -o 6 -s -r ." to losslessly compress all png images: github.com/shssoichiro/oxipng

  1. Add pics of the buttons/menus from the Map Editor and Campaign Editor. That way Csaros doesn't have to just have a wall of text on Map Editor!
    • I've already uploaded a ton of appropriate pictures a few days ago, just didn't have time to place them in the Map Editor entry itself. I'll gladly use some help with them. The Map Editor file is also not finished, but I should be done with it soon. -- Csaros (talk) 21:41, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
  2. Make better logos for the main page links to VCMI, WoG, H3SW, HotA, and HD Mod (with an attempt to match the look and feel of the discord one maybe). –imahero 06:40, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
  3. Replace Town Build Trees with interactable build trees (similar coding to the main page with visuals linking to appropriate objects) to easily navigate objects from the Build Tree itself. - Csaros (talk)
    • I think that is a pretty cool idea. Sounds like a job for Phasma! --Legate (talk) 18:12, 1 February 2024 (UTC)

Template (advanced)

  1. I wonder if it would be possible to change the hover-over text for {{An}}/{{Cn}}/{{Hn}} to be what the effect/stats/specialty is? --Legate (talk) 13:55, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
    • Off the top of my head, I thought of a massive switch statement in the template, but that would be a pain to build/maintain and may slow down the page loads.
    • I suppose it would probably be easier to build/maintain as a lua script. –imahero 22:23, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
    • All opponents have these spells effective on them for fifty turns: Slow, Curse, Weakness, and Misfortune. Component effects: +3 to Attack and Defense, +2 to Spell Power and Knowledge. After a stack of living creatures is slain, a stack of Fangarms will rise in their stead and will stay loyal to the hero after the battle concludes. Armageddon's Bladeimahero 22:23, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
  2. Prepare a separate "Campaign Hero template", unrelated to the Map Editor, HotA Map Editor or the Campaign Editor. Right now only HotA heroes have their own template in the List of heroes (HotA) and it links to the Map Editor (and has its icon). F.e. this icon: . - Csaros (talk)
    • Not sure what you mean? Do you mean this page Template:Campaign hero table? Are you just referring to the link from the main page? --Legate (talk) 18:12, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
      • Take a look here: List of heroes (HotA). What denotes a campaign hero? For RoE Campaign heroes, its the RoE Restoration of Erathia icon (great!). For AB campaign heroes, it's the AB Armageddon's Blade icon (amazing!). For the SoD Shadow of Death campaign heroes, it's the SoD icon (wonderful!). For the HotA Campaign heroes its... Not a HotA Horn of the Abyss icon, because HotA icon is used for ALL HotA heroes. Instead, it is the HotA Map Editor Horn of the Abyss (Campaign/Custom) icon. Now, here's my issue: Do the icons represent which expansion the hero is available in (then I think putting RoE next to anyone is a bit ridiculous) or do they represent which expansion the hero is a campaign hero of (then HotA icon next to Cove Heroes is confusing). And the HotA Map Editor Horn of the Abyss (Campaign/Custom) icon only confuses it more. I wish there was one icon used as a template for all campaign heroes, or that campaign hero icons were more organized in this way. I'm not sure how to go about it, that's why its here.
      • I see what you mean now. I added a note to Template:Campaign_hero_table to clarify a little. I would definitely agree to us having 2 new separate icons - 1 for campaign hero found in the map editor entirely, 1 for campaign hero with just a portrait in the map editor. --Legate (talk) 22:04, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
    • For heroes, we have been using Map Editor & Horn of the Abyss (Campaign/Custom) to denote heroes that can be added to a map, but are not enabled by default, and Campaign Editor & Campaign Editor (HotA) to denote heroes who only have their picture in the map editor, but not their full profile. This is a good distinction, but the Campaign Editor/Campaign Editor (HotA) icons are misleading due to the hero having nothing to do with using the campaign editor. Maybe make/use a different icon?

Wiki settings (advanced)

  1. Improve video thumbnails. With swapping to the videos over the still images, it is harder to see what is happening without clicking on the videos.
    • The thumbnails for the videos are lower quality/resolution than then png files. Is it possible to use the png files as the thumbnail for the video?
      • This is quite unfortunate. Why the developers of TimedMediaHandler decided to not include an option to generate high quality thumbnails I have no idea. File a bug report here. –imahero 20:31, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
      • For me at least, the default playback for these videos is sd instead of the webm source. When I switch, the quality improves noticeably. Might this be related? Can we set the default playback to webm source? --Legate (talk) 21:21, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
      • I didn't see any option to change the default, so I messaged Terra to ask him to remove the option make the lower encodes in the first place (which there was an option for) so hopefully that will fix it. –imahero 22:13, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
