The capital of the free nation of the Contested Lands. The home of the Grail, as established in the Seeds of Discontent campaign.

While it is not explicitly stated whether Welnin is in Mosswood or Forestdale, it is apparently located in the latter and near the former. This can be inferred from The Road Home being marked as Forestdale on the campaign map, with Ryland travelling to Welnin from the northwest.
Due to a mapmaking error, two towns are named "Welnin" in Independence, the "real" Welnin evidently being the player's starting town.
