 Basic effect
Adventure Map Teleport, teleports hero to target, unoccupied, visible location on the adventure map. Spell may be cast twice per day and reduces the hero's movement by 3 tiles for each casting.

Dimension door is a 5th level spell in the School of air magic. It teleports the hero to target, unoccupied location on the adventure map. If the movement reduction reduces movement to zero (or below), the spell may not be cast. The radius of the spell is 9 squares in any direction, diagonal movement included.

If the destination of the spell is invalid, for example water or shoreline (could happen when teleporting into a shroudy area that has not been uncovered yet), the spell fails and the attemp is lost along with the mana and movement points spent.

Other invalid destinations, such as those already containing objects, will cause the dimension door targeting cursor to change back to the arrow cursor; this can provide the player with limited information about the territory concealed by the shroud. Additionally, dimension door can be cast if the hero is in a boat, and the effect of the invalid location are the same, except the hero can not teleport to dry land.

User comments & debate

Although the manual (and infobox on the right) suggests, that dimension door can only teleport hero to visible location, this is not the case. Target destination may still be hidden in the shroud. Additionally, some claim that AI can cast dimension door while standing on cursed ground.

In almost all tournament games and many multiplayer games, this spell is banned, along with fly, town portal, and several other spells, artifacts, and heroes.

Town Portal - teleport to nearest or selectable (Advanced, Expert Earth Magic) own city anywhere on the map.

Fly no terrain obstacle penalty when moving (although suffering a movement penatly of 40%, 20% or finally, nothing - compared to movement on grass, using Fly could be negative compared to Pathfinding on Expert (no terrain penalties for nongrass) if there are no obstacles like woods or mountains to be flown over), if movement points suffice to target also traversing non parkable obstacles like wood or mountains (spell made obsolete when using Angel Wings)

Water Walk like Fly, only concerning water as obstacle instead of wood or mountains, being 40% / 20 % or about as speedy as travelling on grass.
