Most effectively cast on strong troops like [[Vampire Lord|Vampire Lords]] or those that strike all around, or ''massively'' numbered troops like [[Halberdier|Halberdiers]].
Counterstrike can be cast on [[Griffin and Royal Griffin|Griffins and Royal Griffins]], but it has no effect on the latter, as Royal Griffins already have unlimited retaliations.
