Galthran the Death Knight is a Necropolis hero. Galthran starts with a spell book and the spell Shield.
In Horn of the Abyss, Ranloo replaces Galthran by default. You can read more here.
Specialty
Besides the ability mentioned in his description, Galthran also gives +1 speed to Skeletons and Skeleton Warriors. The in-game description "{{{herospec}}}" is erroneous in "each level attained" moment, and lacks the speed bonus information. (Description is fixed in HotA ).
Unlike the native terrain speed bonus, the creature specialty speed bonus can affect the hero's movement points in case the creature is the slowest one in the army.

Galthran's skeleton specialty increases the Attack and Defense skills of any Skeletons or Skeleton Warriors for each level attained after 1st level and increases speed by 1, which makes him one of the best Death Knights. The reason for the default replacement of Galthran with Ranloo was probably balance - the huge bonuses which Galthran provides for Skeletons made his Skeletons immensely powerful in mid- and late-game. |
