Horn of the Abyss[edit]

In Horn of the Abyss, Ranloo Ranloo replaces Galthran by default. You can read more here.

Specialty[edit]

The in-game description lacks the speed bonus information. (Description is fixed in HotA Horn of the Abyss).

Unlike the native terrain speed bonus, the creature specialty speed bonus can affect the hero's movement points in case the creature is the slowest one in the army.

Some may find the information in this section subjective or irrelevant.

Skeletons are often the main power of Necropolis, despite their low level, and are unavoidably present in every native hero's army even if not, which makes Galthran's skeleton specialty incredibly useful. The speed boost alone is worth at least 70 movement points, assuming Zombies are not present in the army. Together with his good starting skill, this makes him one of the best Death Knights.

The reason for the default replacement of Galthran with Ranloo was probably balance - the huge bonuses which Galthran provides for Skeletons made his Skeletons immensely powerful in mid- and late-game.
