Armageddon causes severe damage; in fact, only Implosion can cause more damage. However, Implosion affects only a single creature stack while Armageddon affects all the creatures (and war machines) on the battlefield, causing more collateral damage than Implosion. Because Armageddon damages all creatures, it has become part of one of the most renowned tactics, often called Dragogeddon. The tactic requires creatures immune to Armageddon, and preferably as fast as possible. Before ab and the Phoenix, Black Dragons were the fastest creature with immunity to Armageddon, and that is where the name of the tactic was probably derived. When the hero's army only consists of immune creatures, the hero may cast Armageddon without damaging his own creatures, in the process causing severe damage to the enemy.
In Horn of the Abyss, Armageddon damage is reduced from 50*SP + 30/30/60/120 to 40*SP + 30/30/60/120. Read more here.

The highest possible damage for Armageddon is 14905 points per unit. This requires a level 108 hero with Expert Fire Magic, Expert Sorcery, Orb of Tempestuous Fire, maximum Power (99) and Sorcery as the hero's specialty (bonus 5% to Sorcery per level). The highest possible amount of unit stacks in battle is 20 per side + 3 War Machines per side. Therefore, the maximum possible damage to deal to all units on the battlefield, provided no spell immunity or resistance is in play, is 14905 * 46 = 685930 points of damage. However, if all creatures on the battlefield are Water Elementals, which are vulnerable to fire, highest possible damage is 14905 * 2 * 40 + 14905 * 6 = 1281830. For example, Implosion maximum damage is 22711.

Armageddon is a 4th level spell in the School of Fire Magic. It damages all creatures on the battlefield, including the caster's own troops. However, a few creatures can resist the spell due to their spell immunities. This allows to use specific tactics, including:

 • Dragogeddon (using only Gold and/or Black Dragons in the battle. Green and Red Dragons will suffer from Armageddon, as they are not immune to level 4 spells, and are therefore useless in Dragogeddon);
 • Conflux's Armageddon squad, consisting of 4-7 tier Conflux units.

The highest possible damage for Armageddon cast by a player is 375154 points of damage. This requires Expert Fire Magic (or Fiery Fields, or Magic plains), Expert Sorcery, Sorcery as hero specialty (gives 5% bonus to Sorcery per level), maximum Power (99), maximum hero level (6424) and Orb of Tempestuous Fire. 370084 (ca. 98%) points are the bonus from Sorcery skill. Therefore this is the highest possible damage to deal to multiple units by one spell by a player. It is, however, possible for Faerie Dragon to cast spells of theoretically infinite strength. For highest possible damage to deal to one unit at once by one spell, see Implosion.

Armageddon can cause even more damage to creatures than the Implosion if collateral damage is taken into account. Because Armageddon damages all creatures, it has become part of one of the most renowned tactics, often called Dragogeddon. The tactic requires fast creatures immune to Armageddon. In the original Restoration of Erathia, Gold Dragons and Black Dragons were the fastest creatures with immunity to Armageddon, and that is where the name of the tactic was probably derived. Later in Armageddon's Blade and Shadow of Death, the Phoenix became the fastest creature with immunity to Armageddon. In Inferno, you may get Armageddon in the Mage Guild and use only Efreet and Efreet Sultans who are immune to the spell. When the hero's army only consists of immune creatures, the hero may cast Armageddon without damaging his own creatures, in the process causing severe damage to the enemy. Note that Green and Red Dragons are not immune to Armageddon, thus they're useless for Dragogeddon.

The town with the highest amount of creatures immune to Armageddon is Conflux, with 4 out of 7 fully upgraded creatures being completely immune. On top of that, it's their highest-tier creatures. However, to balance that, Conflux can only learn Armageddon if they have the Aurora Borealis. This does not work in Horn of the Abyss. The only towns that can learn Armageddon are Inferno, Dungeon, and Necropolis.
