Berserk is a 4 level spell in the School of Fire Magic. It is a mind spell that makes the target attack the nearest troop whether it is an ally or enemy. This also includes war machines. If the creature cannot attack anyone, the spell expires after 255 turns.

AI cannot cast this spell (fixed in Horn of the Abyss Horn of the Abyss).

Fixed creature bugs while under the "Berserk" spell.

  • The shooting squad shoots at the closest hex of the closest squad possible (if there are several equidistant squads, one is chosen randomly).
  • In melee combat, a squad always chooses the closest enemy and hex that is easiest to reach. If there are several equidistant squads, one is chosen randomly. The squad does not pass a turn if it is possible to reach the target.
  • The picture on the right shows how the bug works:
    • The Angels and Rust Dragons were both casted Berserk spell.
    • To Angels, which only take up one hex, the shortest movement to attack the Phoneix is to move back two hexes. However, the hex is an obstacle so Angels can't reach there. So the Angels wait and wait...
    • To Rust Dragons, which take up two hexes, the shortest movement to attack the Phoneix is to move to position 1. However, AI considers Phoneix's "head" as a obstacle, so actually Rust Dragons need to attack Phoneix's "back" in position 2, but that's not the shortest movement. The Rust Dragons don't know what to do, so they wait and wait...
    • As a result, both of them won't do anything and will pass their turns, even if they could reach their target.

Berserk is perhaps the most powerful combat spell in the game. It allows heroes to defeat armies with clearly stronger forces.
