The most likely reason Murdoch is banned by default is because he is attack-oriented in contrast to [[Factory]] being considered a balanced faction. Otherwise, his specialty would make the [[Halflings]] and the [[Gunslingers]] overpowered. | |||

Sandworms in Bracada. In return, he helps Dargem rescue 
Kilgor and raid AvLee, then sets out to settle Dargem's score with another old enemy, 
Henrietta.

User Commentary
The most likely reason Murdoch is banned by default is because he is attack-oriented in contrast to Factory being considered a balanced faction. Otherwise, his specialty would make the Halflings and the Gunslingers overpowered.
Murdoch is a sub-optimal choice for a starting hero for the same reasons Orrin isn't a preferred choice of a starting hero. Heroes with specialties in level 1 and 2 creatures (such as Henrietta or Sam) are preferable due to having a better starting army, facilitating the use of a single powerstack. However, at level 7, with Expert Archery, Murdoch's stack of halflings begins to outperform Henrietta's starting powerstack.
