Fully upgraded Pavilion

Pavilion is modified and balanced version of the Bastion Town by New Town Group, ported to VCMI by edeksumo and Andruids with the help of the Acid Cave modding community, with special thanks to Nephretes, J. M. Sower, Hobbit, Kuririn, Witchking, Trith, and Mitlandy. It is an Egyptian-themed town that draws heavily on Egyptian mythology, with further Arabic influence showing in some of its units and architecture. Some of the Egyptian trappings are inspired by the pyramidal Tomb of VARN and its Anubis-like guardians in Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven.

Pavilion is a Neutral alignment town, home to the Vizier and Embalmer hero classes.

The native terrain of Pavilion is Sand, but it may be changed to Dunes, a new terrain type, by enabling a submod.

Pavilion's Blacksmith sells First Aid Tents, its Mage Guild reaches Level 4, and its Resource Silo provides Mercury.

Origins[edit | hide | hide all]

"The Bastion campaign will be a direct continuation of the Armageddon's Blade and Dragon's Blood campaigns, and will also serve as a precursor to the Clash of the Dragons campaign (from Heroes Chronicles). In it, the desert dwellers will find themselves embroiled in a war between Erathia and Nighon, but they will manage to resist joining either side in this war and eventually form a new independent state called Akmon." Adapted from WoG Forum post

The Bastion Town was originally conceived in 2005 by New Town Group (NTG) as an In the Wake of Gods 3.59 mod, planned to be released alongside two other towns: Kremlin (a Slavic-themed town) and Haven (a sea-themed town). Due to conflicts within the team at the time and the fact that WoG 3.59 never came to fruition, the town was never completed. Thus, the project was frozen for well over a decade. Some creatures were leaked by their authors, like Sekhmet/High Priestesses and Servants/Warriors of Anubis. As many fans wanted Bastion to be released, it was ported to VCMI as the Pavilion, with its creature lineup being slightly altered from what was originally planned. In April 2021, NTG announced that the Bastion would finally be released, with new graphics being revealed in further posts made by the team.

Speculation[edit | hide]

The following information is largely based on extrapolations about a work-in-progress project and largely unconfirmed. The finished project may differ greatly.

In The Tree Killer, part of the Horn of the Abyss campaign All In, a rumour states: "It is said that on the surface of Nighon, far to the east, there live the people of the desert. Among them are catfolk, whom no one has ever seen yet." This may imply that the Bastion could have greater relevance in Horn of the Abyss' future plans, but nothing is yet to be confirmed. NTG's leader Raistlin has since joined the HotA crew and recently wrote on the WoG forums that the "ice has broken", though no further details were revealed. This implies that the Bastion will emerge, one way or another.
