Luck is a secondary skill, that increases the combat variable of the same name. A hero receives +1 luck at basic skill level, +2 at advanced and +3 at expert.

Luck is not a "must have" secondary skill which is essential, but still a decent bonus helpful in battles. Its relevance probably increased in Horn of the Abyss , as this mod enabled bad luck attacks (which are present in the original game's code, but do not normally work), which deal only half of damage, and Luck secondary skill can help avoiding it. Consider this skill playing for Necropolis (even though there's a very small chance to get it), as neither morale nor Bless spell can improve the attacks of the undead. Having high luck is unquestionably valuable in combat. For several reasons, however, Luck is only a mediocre secondary skill:
