Edric's ancestor¹ great grandfather¹  was the first man in Erathia to domesticate and train a wild Griffin. Now, Edric's family maintains Erathia's largest Griffin breeding grounds for use in the King's armies.

Increases the Speed of allied Griffins and Royal Griffins by 1 and their Attack and Defense skills by 20% 5%  for every 3 levels (rounded up).

Story

Edric does not appear in the story text of any campaign levels.

¹ According to Gregory Fulton, suggested griffins being tamed by Edric's "great-grandfather" is probably an error and should likely be replaced by "ancestor" (i.e. Rion Gryphonheart). Alternatively, this great grandfather, or another ancestor of Edric, may have been a non-human or an unusually long-lived human.

Lost Lore 

In an early build of the game, Edric was named Desslock. A knight by that name appears in the short story, Kreegan reference . This Desslock serves as Xanthor's guide on a trip to the Contested Lands. He may or may not be a different person than Edric. The name is a reference to the Gamespot reviewer Stefan Janicki (aka "Desslock").

Compared to other level 3 units, both Griffins have adequate stats with the only weakness being their relatively low damage. Edric's specialty will not only make Royal Griffins the 2nd fastest level 3 unit at 10 Speed (only Dragon Flies are faster), but also somewhat mitigate their low damage thanks to the increased attack. His secondary skills make him a decent starting hero while further improving the performance of the Griffins as Armorer leads to less casualties (improving the strength of the Griffin's retaliations) and Leadership can allow for extra attacks (along with mitigating the chance of losing turns due to low morale). Keep in mind that as a Knight, Edric has the lowest chance of all the hero classes to learn Earth Magic which can cause issues later in the game if he doesn't learn it due to the improvements spells such as Resurrection, Town Portal, and Slow get when cast with Expert Earth Magic.
