Witches are the magic heroes of Fortress.

"Witches are adept at the use of magic powered by rare ingredients gathered from swamplands. Learning this knowledge takes a focus that allows for little advancement of military knowledge." RoE manual

As they are heroes of a neutral town, they can get experience by sacrificing both artifacts and creatures on Altar of Sacrifice and in Grotto Horn of the Abyss.

All witches start with the secondary skill Wisdom. They cannot learn Necromancy, Resistance, and Interference Horn of the Abyss, which means they can only acquire them from Witch Huts (if allowed), Scholars, Seer's Huts, Pandora's Boxes or Events.
