An Enrothian sorceress (the pupil of Amanda) who moved to Erathia after the Succession Wars. In Erathia, she enlisted under the command of Mayor Delino. Due to her experiences fighting Necromancers in Enroth, she jumped at the opportunity to help Sandro (a secret lich) conduct "research to combat necromancy". In reality, she unwittingly helped him assemble the powerful necromantic artifact, the Cloak of the Undead King. She befriended Clancy and recruited him to help her in this quest. Through Clancy, she got to know Lord Fayette and the Druids. Once her quest for Sandro was complete, she changed her allegiance to AvLee and became a Druid. Gem served as a Sorceress for sixty-one years before becoming a Druid.
After Lord Fayette and Lord Falorel are murdered, Gem teams up with Gelu to find the killer, Sandro. During their campaign against Sandro, they meet and also team up with the Barbarians Yog and Crag Hack. Together, they assemble the Angelic Alliance to combat the powers of Sandro's artifacts. Once they defeat Sandro, the heroes break apart the Armor of the Damned and the Cloak of the Undead King and disperse the pieces throughout Antagarich.

Trivia
According to Clearing the Border, Gem, like all sorcerers, turns her hair black before battle so her opponents have a harder time knowing which sorcerer they are facing.
According to Final Peace, the blue around Gem's eyes is not war paint, but the result of a druidic ritual honoring something some small creature had done for her. In Gem's case, it was raccoons who washed her food in water.
Campaign vs. Standard hero
In the Shadow of Death campaign New Beginning, a slightly different version of Gem is found, her class is listed as Sorceress though she is still technically a Druid, and her starting spell is changed from Summon Boat to Lightning Bolt.
NOTE: If you hire Gem in a Tavern in an Unholy Alliance scenario which is dedicated to another hero, you will later be unable to get Gem in a scenario where she is a main character (another Rampart hero will appear instead). The only way to avoid this problem if you for some reason have hired Gem is to get rid of her (e.g by firing).
Horn of the Abyss
In Horn of the Abyss, Gem has her starting spell changed on maps without water from Summon Boat to Bless.
Specialty
First Aid specialty only enhances the secondary skill bonuses, not affecting the basic 1-25 healing bonus of First Aid Tent, so the HotA description ("5% per level bonus to First Aid Tent healing efficiency") is not correct.
