the list of towns on the side is long enough to make that clear thing a bit awkward now; and when hota is switched off, the list of named taverns is short enough not to be a problem. Not sure the Rusty Mug should be listed without a qualifier if it's from Homm4.

Hiring Heroes<br>
Heroes can be hired for 2500 g. There are always two heroes available in a Tavern (unless no heroes remain to be hired), and if one is hired, a new hero will immediately appear in their place. The first two heroes available to hire at the beginning of each week (including at the beginning of the game) will start with their regular army. After either one is hired, the hero that takes its place in the Tavern will only have one non-upgraded first level creature in their army. At the beginning of each week, the left-most hero in the Tavern will belong to the faction the player started as, regardless of the Tavern they are hired from.

Recruiting heroes

Heroes can be bought from the tavern at the price of 2500 Gold. At the beginning of each week two new heroes will become available, one of which will always be from the town you began with (unless all the heroes from your town are already taken). If you buy a hero, another hero will become available in its place, but it will only have a single creature and may be from any town.
Taverns also can be found on the adventure map. Players may hire heroes in external Taverns, but they will not receive bonus Morale or more accurate troop estimates when visiting them. The AI will not use external Taverns to hire heroes.

Hearing rumours

Above the selection of heroes is a small box containing rumours. For the most part you don't need to pay any attention to this but it may be occasionally helpful. Mapmakers are allowed to enter as many of their own rumours as they see fit, some may be helpful in the sense they reveal the location of treasures and points of interest.
Rumors<br>
Rumors are visible below the Tavern video when entering a Tavern. Default rumors often provide useful information to the player, though some are proverbs or bits of lore. Map makers may also include custom rumors in a map's settings. Default rumors may reveal the terrain in which the grail is buried, as well as whether the grail is to be found in the underground layer.

For example this rumour can be found in the map A Viking we shall go! from the sod expansion:
In the North Sea, to west of Eire there is said to be a graveyard of dead ships.

There are also default rumours that you may find useful as well. Some reveal the terrain that the Grail is buried under and others point out which player has the most artifacts.

Adventure Map Troop Estimates<br>
The number of Taverns the player controls determines what they see when checking on an enemy town/garrison (as far as troop types/estimated numbers go).
** 0 Taverns - The town/garrison will look empty, even though it is not.
** 1 Tavern - The town/garrison will show troop types, but no estimated sizes.
** 2 (or more) Taverns - The town/garrison will show troop types and estimated sizes.

There is also a tavern available of the adventure map as well. It resembles the tavern of the Castle town. It works the same as a regular tavern.

Trivia: In the original ROE game, the heroes available in one of the on-map taverns would be different from the ones available in your castle. But they changed this in a patch.

Hiring Heroes
Heroes can be hired for 2500 Gold. There are always two heroes available in a Tavern (unless no heroes remain to be hired), and if one is hired, a new hero will immediately appear in their place. The first two heroes available to hire at the beginning of each week (including at the beginning of the game) will start with their regular army. At the beginning of each week, the left-most hero in the Tavern will belong to the faction the player started as, regardless of the Tavern they are hired from.

Taverns also can be found on the adventure map. Players may hire heroes in external Taverns, but they will not receive bonus Morale or more accurate troop estimates when visiting them. The AI will not use external Taverns to hire heroes.

Rumors
Rumors are visible below the Tavern video when entering a Tavern. Default rumors often provide useful information to the player, though some are proverbs or bits of lore. Map makers may also include custom rumors in a map's settings. Default rumors may reveal the terrain in which the grail is buried, as well as whether the grail is to be found in the underground layer.

Adventure Map Troop Estimates
The number of Taverns the player controls determines what they see when checking on an enemy town/garrison (as far as troop types/estimated numbers go).

    • 0 Taverns - The town/garrison will look empty, even though it is not.
    • 1 Tavern - The town/garrison will show troop types, but no estimated sizes.
    • 2 (or more) Taverns - The town/garrison will show troop types and estimated sizes.

Restoration of Erathia[edit | hide | hide all]

  • Taverns on the adventure map featured different heroes than those found in towns.
  • Heroes were always hired with their regular army, which lead to tactics where players hired several heroes at once and combined their armies to speed up the beginning of the game.

Horn of the Abyss[edit | hide]

In Horn of the Abyss a variant of Tavern for water terrain was added. Hired heroes appear in boats.

HD Mod[edit | hide]

Thieves' Guild information can be checked by pressing 'G' hotkey without even opening a town window.

You can now invite heroes in taverns. For that, <UI.Tavern.InviteHero> should be set to 1 in the 'Tweaks' tab.

    • The feature only available in single player game.
    • The invited hero appears available for hire after hiring another hero.
