Pandora's Box

Pandora's Box is a special adventure map object that can be picked up by a hero. The content is a mystery until a hero opens it. When the hero tries to pick up Pandora's Box, the player is asked if they want to open the box. If the player selects "yes", the box opens and combat ensues if there are guardians. If there are no guardians, or when the hero defeats the guardians, the content is revealed. It can be one or more of the following:

• Gain or lose spell points
• Gain or lose luck (+3 to -3)
• Gain or lose morale (+3 to -3)
• Gain or lose resources
• Gain experience
• Gain primary skills
• Learn secondary skills (ignoring hero class restrictions)
• Learn spell(s) (the proper level of Wisdom skill is required)
• Receive artifact(s)
• Receive creature(s)
• Gain, lose, have negated, set or replenished movement points. 
• Nothing

The box disappears after a hero successfully opens it.

Creature reward calculation

The default amount of creature reward (if not set by the map-maker) is calculated by the same formula for Pandora's Boxes and Seer's Huts. The creatures' native town depends on the zone type where the Pandora's Box or a quest artifact was generated.

Level 7	AI value 27000

First, the AI value of creature level-based total reward gets divided by the creature's AI value. The result (rounded down) gets modified by the rules:

if = 1-5	no changes
if = 6-12	rounded up to the closest even number
if = 13-50	rounded to the closest 5
if > 50	rounded to the closest 10 (5 gets up to 10) (max 150 in Horn of the Abyss)

E.g.: for  Cerberus it will look like: 9000÷392 = 22,95 = 22 = 20

Pandora's Box and Seer's Hut creature reward tables

• Bug: the game considers Ice Elemental as level 4, Energy Elemental as level 5 and Magma Elemental as level 3. (fixed in Horn of the Abyss)
