Sandro the Necromancer is a Necropolis hero. Sandro starts with a spell book and the spell Slow.
Story
― Sandro as he appears in Heroes I and Heroes II. | ― Sandro disguised as a Wizard. |
Former pupil of Ethric. Former best friend of Jeddite. Teacher of Vidomina. Sandro (or self-identified as Sandro the Great) is a powerful lich with plans to take over the world. He is the main and most important character of Shadow of Death.
In Shadow of Death, Sandro began his plans to take over the world by disguising himself as a wizard and hiring/tricking several heroes into recovering artifacts for him:
- Terek (fail) / Gem (Sorceress) (success) - Cloak of the Undead King
- Crag Hack (success) - Armor of the Damned
- Tyranell (fail) - Statue of Legion
Once he has the Cloak of the Undead King and the Armor of the Damned, he enacts the second phase of his plan. He reveals himself as a necromancer, allies with Finneas and takes on Vidomina as an apprentice. He fights his way to Deyja where he and Finneas are welcomed into the king's inner circle. In short order, Sandro disposes of the reigning king and installs Finneas as a puppet.
Sandro then assassinates several border lords (Lord Fayette and Lord Falorel) and begins using the armies of Deyja and the power of his artifacts to prepare for an invasion of Erathia and AvLee. He is opposed, however, by four heroes: Gelu, Gem, Yog and Crag Hack. These heroes assemble the Angelic Alliance and, using it, manage to defeat Sandro and recover the Cloak of the Undead King and the Armor of the Damned from him. They disperse the components of these artifacts throughout Antagarich to end their corrupting influence.
Thwarted, but still dreaming of world conquest, Sandro hatches another plan. He smuggles poison to Lord Haart with which he assassinates King Gryphonheart of Erathia. He also makes alliances with Nighon and Eeofol. He funds the dungeon overlords' construction of a tunnel into the heart of Erathia and recovers the Eversmoking Ring of Sulfur for the devils to ensure the support of their armies. As one of the last steps to prepare for the invasion, Finneas secretly tasks Sandro with removing an over-ambitious Deyjan lord, Lord Smedth. Once Sandro does, Finneas reveals this as his plan for getting rid of Sandro and imprisons him for assaulting an innocent lord. Setting the stage for Restoration of Erathia, Finneas, the necromancers, the dungeon overlords and the devils invade Erathia.
In Season of Harvest, Sandro is released from prison to aid in the assault on Erathia.

Sandro is similar to a Warlock Malekith, but necromancer have different use than a warlock. Most important spells for necromancers are focused on improving durability like stone skin, slowing enemies and resurrecting undead armies (animate dead). None of them are a destructive spells. Even with high spellpower and sorcery speciallist, undead-specific spells do very little damage. Necromancers simply do not have much time to cast destructive spells. |
